Technology moving fast...

Well, this news may be a little bit too technical for some of you, so, viewer discretion is advised.

For those of you who dont know, most of the computer chips that you have in your computer is already made with 90nm process technology. These chips include the one on your display card, the CPU, the processor in your cellphone, DV, DC, PSP, iPod...etc (the list can go on for a while...)

But semiconductor is a high tech industry, so how will they ever settle at 90nm? Since you always want faster, smaller, and more energy efficient chips, it's just common sense that ppl will more build chips with smaller process technology. That's why Intel will be manufacturing their P4, or those dual-core chips with 65nm as of 2006. Just come to think of it, the Pentium 3, which was made with 130nm technology, with 65nm, without any effort, you can put two identical P3 onto a single chip of the same size. This already can roughly double your performance.

Oh, and we are not stopping at 65nm of cuz. Intel already announced they are doing research in 45nm process technology. And following them close behind will be the join effort of Sony, Toshiba and NEC, who are also trying to build the first chip in 45nm.

With these ppl continuing to push the envelop on technology, very soon we'll be making computers the size of a dime...
